In order for students to play dungeons and dragons there is prep work that each student will need to complete, as well as supplies they will need to have every session. Preparation includes creating a character using the resources below (google slides and google form). Students will also need a pencil for each session and access to a polyhedral dice roller (One can be found here).
IT SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE GAME EXPERIENCE. Any unsportsmanlike conduct during the game will result in the player(s) begin asked to leave the game and disciplinary action.
Dungeons & Dragons, or D&D, is a game where you and your friends tell a story together, almost like acting out a movie that you're all making up as you go.
You're the Hero: You create a character, like a brave knight, a sneaky rogue, or a powerful wizard, and you decide what they do.
The Storyteller: One person, called the Dungeon Master (or DM), is in charge of the story. They describe the world, the monsters you meet, and the people you talk to.
It's a Team Effort: You work with your friends' characters to solve puzzles, fight monsters, and go on epic quests.
The Dice Decide: When you try to do something risky, you roll a special twenty-sided die (a d20) to see if you succeed. It's how the game adds a little bit of luck to the adventure.
Think of it like playing make-believe with rules. You get to be a hero in a magical world, and the story changes based on the choices you and your friends make!
👈 This is the revised (2024) Player's Handbook for Dungeons and Dragons: Fifth edition, or the DND 5e PHB 2024. This came out last year. Do you need to read the whole thing? No. It's a textbook full of resources to help you, the player. Important chapters to check out are Chapters 1 - 4. Do I expect you to read all of that? No. I provide a simplified version of those chapters on the Character Creation Page.
👉 This is my Reference sheet created for any and all players. Honestly, there is a lot to look at when playing the game, even when playing your character. This guide is meant to help remind players what they can and cannot do in the game, as well as how different parts of the game are played. I suggest you read over this as well.
The Player's Character (PC) is the avatar used to play Dungeons and Dragons. When creating a character it is important to consider things like How do I want to play the game? Do I want to use magic? Do I want to use a sword and shield? Do I want to use both?
Character creation is a lengthy process where players will decide three things to make their character.
Class - The major factor to determine how the player plays the game
Species - bonus abilities specific to that species
Background - bonuses to stats and skills
